Good Little Children

How nice that there are still so many Republicans who do what they’re told:
A broad House majority gave final approval last night to a $35 billion expansion of the popular children’s health insurance program, with members from both parties brushing aside a stern veto threat from President Bush to vote their support, 265 to 159.
The Senate will take up the bill later this week and is expected to send it to the president with a veto-proof, bipartisan majority. But amid furious White House lobbying, even Republican advocates in the House ruefully conceded that they will probably fall short of the 290 votes they will need next week to override the promised veto.
“I think it’s a heavy lift,” said Rep. Heather A. Wilson (R-N.M.), a perennial political target of the Democrats who worked hard for the bill’s passage yesterday. “The administration has come to this debate very late, and, as a result, they’re asking us to take one for the team here.”

The Republicans show increasing signs of dementia. If this goes down, and at the end of the day I have a sneaking suspicion it won’t, then it’s conclusive proof that today’s Republican party has totally lost contact with reality and is in thrall to the fruitcakes who inhabit places like the WSJ ed page. Either way it’s a win win for the Democrats. If it passes they will claim the credit. If it fails they will just keep bringing it up for a vote as the elections get nearer and nearer and force the Republicans to vote against it. Chuck Grassly a Republican laid out the strategy exactly. The mystery is why the average Republican house member wants this albatross round their necks. The answer probably lies in gerrymandering which has made districts so safe and tended to elect fruitcakes. In the long run this is great news for the democrats.
“Take one for the team”? What team, exactly? The team of asshole losers?
I wish someone could explain why they continue to have such blind allegiance to BushCo at this point? He’s one of the most hated presidents in US history, and they are STILL behind him every step of the way.
I think he’s been keeping files on them all. Bush ran the dirty tricks operation for his dad - a leopard doesn’t change his spots.
John: The “fruitcakes?” Aren’t they all over cheering Ahmadinejad at Columbia and the U.N.?
CabinGirl: One “of the worst presidents in US history”? The pubic hates the Democratic Congress more than they hate Bush (whose numbers are coming back up in wake of the Petraeus report). G.W. has beaten back every lame-brained attack so far by Reid & Co. to weaken our efforts in Iraq.
Thank goodness for the White House!
If you rob from Peter to pay Paul, you can always count on getting Paul’s vote. The Democrats have mastered the art of buying votes with other people’s money.
