Birthdays and Baseball

I can’t tell you how closely my September 30th birthday and losing baseball are intertwined in my psyche. Every year, my father and brothers would sing a hurried “Happy Birthday” to me and then rush back into the living room with their ice cream and cake to see what was inevitably the last game the Phillies would play that season.
I’m going to have to recalibrate. What a great birthday present. And congrats to the 44-year-old Jamie Moyer (say that again: 44 years old!), ’cause I do love me some junkball pitchers. The fact that he’s a local makes it that much sweeter.
Somewhere, my dad (who suffered through the Great Phillies Choke of 1964) is smiling.
UPDATE: DMac has some pretty funny stuff on the win - and the Mets’ loss.

Happy birthday, Suze.
Death to the Phillies! (Or at least a bad headache…)
Happy Birthday and it is great to see the Phils back in the dance. Plus I don’t get to cheer for guys older than me winning games anymore so I love when Moyer does good.
Yeah, I’m glad to see them in the post season but my Giants put it on your Eagles last night and that was a litle sweet, too. If your Phillies and my Yankees get to the Series, I’m probably not with you anymore, though it will be hard…After all, Spahn and Sain and a day of rain….Yeah, I’m about that old.

Actually, I don’t enjoy football that much. I hate the sound of crunching bones and I’m not all that fond of the concussions.
