Okay, enough juvenile mockery for the moment. Yes, the bar for Japan is really odd; and I’d expect that if it’s not some reporting anomaly that diet has a lot to do with it.

But remember, Japan is the place that pioneered the diagnostic toilet, if you’re really concerned about early detection of prostate (or colon) cancer, that’s the way to go. Although the ‘yuck’ factor is pretty big.

Question I’d most like to hear at a Guiliani presser: “Rudy! Did having prostate cancer change your opinion of ferrets?”

Suppose the rate of diagnosis could be the effect of non-diagnosis? Is the PSA and other screening tools used in Japan as they are in the US or maybe they stick to the myth that it doesn’t matter since you’ll probably die from something else before prostate cancer and treat it like many in the US do - they don’t. Only problem is that it is not always slow growing and maybe you’ll die from the spread to other organs - bones, brain, if not found early.
Rudy should thank his stars that his treatment was at a major hospital that receives major monies from not only the Feds but a multitude of bigPharma companies who underwrite research and treatment that attract only the best doctors and can offer the latest treatments by skilled staff. NYCity employees, including the mayor, have health insurance paid by the taxpayers which picked up the tab. We should all be so lucky.

Looking at this chart I do have one question, why is the rate so much lower in Japan? I’m guessing diet mostly but what is their health care, national or private? Just curious since it really has no relation to the subject at hand.
