Well, my physical therapist thinks I have a bone chip floating around my ankle. I think she’s right; although the swelling is down, the ankle still doesn’t feel better. It feels like there’s something catching the ligament; there’s a stabbing, localized pain.
She doesn’t want me walking for exercise, she doesn’t want me to go back to yoga (can’t do anything weight bearing on my ankle) and she doesn’t want me lifting “anything” when I move. (I didn’t tell her I’m carrying stuff over there almost every day.)
About the only thing I’m allowed to do is swim - and work out on an exercise bike.
There’s an indoor heated pool right behind my office, and it’s not too expensive. But the pool’s only open to the public from 6:15 a.m. to 3 p.m., so I can’t go after work. The exercise bike isn’t a bad idea - I’ll keep checking Craig’s list for a freebie. (Exercise equipment always starts out “$150 firm,” becomes “$75 OBO” a week later, and then finally we’re in the “Free to good home, will leave on porch, first come first served” phase.)
I’m just kinda bummed. Any kind of distraction is a challenge with ADD; having three PT sessions a week throws off my concentration at work. I’m either leaving early or coming in late. I really miss being physical, especially the yoga. I’ve been doing chair yoga, but it’s not as good. And I still have to do all this packing.
If I have a bone chip, they’ll probably have to do surgery - and then it’s right back to physical therapy Ground Zero. But first I have to find a doctor in my new neighborhood, get an MRI and a new physical therapist, hopefully one near work.
I feel old, and overwhelmed, and vulnerable. Middle age really sucks sometimes.

Something not right here. Walking and exercise bike are much the same.
Compare and contrast- exercise bike v. lying on back and doing pedaling motion with feet in air.
Not even close. Walking with my full weight on my knee and ankle joints is a lot more stressful.
Freecycle often gets exercise equipment on it. I’ll keep an eye out.
You might consider checking your community’s FreeCycle site- they are a resource for people who are just trying to get rid of things and want to donate them to someone who needs/wants them. Been using it for a while, and have gotten (and given) some decent stuff!
