To me, death is death. When the good Cardinal is just as upset about capital punishment (which is, all too often, the taking of innocent life as later proved by DNA testing), I’ll listen more respectfully to him.
And when the good Cardinal is just as vocal about the inappropriate sex habits of so many of his priests, that might give him, oh, I don’t know, a tad more credibility in my eyes:
BALTIMORE - Cardinal Sean P. O’Malley of Boston, saying the Democratic Party has been persistently hostile to opponents of abortion rights, asserted yesterday that the support of many Catholics for Democratic candidates “borders on scandal.”
In his sharpest comments about the political landscape since he was installed as archbishop of Boston four years ago, O’Malley made clear that, despite his differences with the Republican Party over immigration policy, capital punishment, economic issues, and the war in Iraq, he views abortion as the most important moral issue facing policymakers.
“I think the Democratic Party, which has been in many parts of the country traditionally the party which Catholics have supported, has been extremely insensitive to the church’s position, on the gospel of life in particular, and on other moral issues,” O’Malley said.
The fact is, the Catholic church dove into bed with the Republican party several decades ago and stayed there. The Church also has a gospel of economic justice, and the Republican party is certainly insensitive to the church’s position on that.
Yet we don’t hear any statements decrying them for it. Wonder why? You don’t suppose it’s the deals made to support vouchers for Catholic schools, do you?

This is just sad. Apparently for the bishops, abortion trumps everything. Starting a war for bogus reasons, killing hundreds of thousands, supporting dictators, screwing the poor and middle class and turning the country into a police state just don’t matter to them. This is the real scandal to me.
Acknowledging that Catholic voters in Massachusetts generally support Democratic candidates who are in favor of abortion rights, O’Malley said, “I think that, at times, it borders on scandal as far as I’m concerned.”
Longer Sean O’Hannity O’Malley:
Support for the right to personal autonomy in one’s medical decisions: Borders on scandal.
Abusing a sacred trust to stick your d*ck into pre-teen altar girls and boys: Business as usual.
Remember, it was the Catholic Church that supported Franco, from the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s to his death in 1975.
With a few notable exceptions (such as priests who preached Liberation Theology in Latin America), the Church has always allied itself with the enemies of mankind.
Well for years now, abortion has trumped everything for Dems eh? Dems have paid little attention to econ justice, police states etc either. They are the lesser of two evils (Reps vs. Dems). Do you think Rahm Emanual (who made more than $10 Million on Wall Street in less than 2 years) and other Dems like him give a damn about these issues?
