The Windy City just might be the most sustainable city in America. Smart thinking!

“…some people around Chicago have begun to wonder if a city that hardly recycles its trash…”
It takes a lot of green initiatives to offset a lack of trash recycling.
My hunch is that college towns like Berkeley, Boulder, and Davis (CA)
are greener than Chi-town. Has anyone done a logical rating system?
In any case, props to Chicago for doing whatever it is doing.
As a resident, I can tell you that the lack of recycling is MAJOR. I cringe whenever I throw out a can or bottle or newspaper, which is every time I’m done with one. Some large apartment buildings have recycling through the private contractors that pick up their trash, and people in houses can use blue bags (though that system sucks and blows), but I have no options. The hauler who takes the garbage from my building apparently doesn’t recycle. And I don’t have a car, so hauling cans and bottles on the el (if it’s running . . .) or a bus (if the route hasn’t been canceled) really isn’t an option. So one cheer for the green alleys, but recycling is needed sorely.
