Checking In

I’m finally here! (No, I didn’t leave Philadelphia, as some of you seem to have gotten the mistaken impression. I just moved to a different neighborhood - this time in the river wards, so-called because they hug the Delaware River.)
I hurt so bad; I’m walking like a 90-year-old. Let me tell you, moving with a bum ankle really sucks. Even though I had movers, they wanted me to consolidate more of the stuff into bigger bags. So I was on my feet pretty much all day, and it wasn’t pretty.
After the movers left, I swept up and took what I could down to the car. My legs were so bad, I couldn’t walk down the steps; I slid down on my butt. Arghh.
I have too much damn stuff, mostly clothes and books. I have too many clothes because that’s what happens when you don’t know when you can get to the laundromat.
Early this morning, I happened to watch Wayne Dyer with one of those PBS specials, and he talked about the Tao, having too much stuff, and how letting go brings you in touch with your inner nature, especially if it’s something you really like.
So I gave a bunch of stuff way to one of the movers: a painting, a turntable, half my LP collection. Why not? Clearly, I have too much stuff. Oh yeah, and the famous IKEA shelf? It simply collapsed when they tried to move it.
My friends/landlords had me over for a homecooked meal, which was a wonderful break from the chaos. (I hope to one day have a meal in my own kitchen. Somewhere in this mess are the screws that attach the kitchen table to the base. They were in a Ziploc bag taped to the table top, but they’re not there now.)
As soon as I walked through the door, my friend Amy looked at me and said, “What can I get you?”
“Do you have any ibuprofen?” I moaned. “I need four of them.”
“Here,” she said. “And I’ll get you some wine.”
Her husband lent me a USB wireless adapter so I could get online without having to wait for Comcast. (Hence this post.)
Tomorrow morning I plan to have breakfast at the local diner, and then wait for Comcast. (Hah.) We’ll see.
