The Rich Get Rich and the Poor Get Screwed

In New Orleans, they’re knocking down all the Section 8 housing to make sure the poor people can’t come back. This was the scene at today’s city council meeting - where the poor people and others who are protesting were forbidden access:

this is a no win situation too. The place is one of the worst places in the country for crime. Murderers live there, the drug dealers run the place and the people it is ment to help suffer….
I think in this situation susie there a few alternatives. What led to this situation is what makes it so bad, not this end result.
Philadelphia drastically changed how it ‘does’ low-income housing, moving away from (and knocking down many) of those project towers. They were a sorry specticle left over from the Robert Moses-era of urban design.
In New Orleans, “4,500 apartments in the four biggest public housing projects” will be demolished. At over 1,000 apartments (housing how many people each?) per project average, that sounds like just the type of thing that should be redone.
If done right, it could be a positive in the long run. But hoping these people get it ‘right’ is a long shot…
