It’s Always Something

If it’s not one thing, it’s another, as Roseanne Rosannadanna used to say.
Okay, I made this appointment to get my car inspected a week ago and was there bright and early this morning. I waited - and waited. Finally, after 45 minutes, the owner showed up to inform everyone who was waiting that he hurt his back, and could we bring our cars back Wednesday?
“I don’t have off Wednesday,” I pointed out. Ah well. I did find another inspection station who could take me, and hopefully it will only cost an arm and not a leg. But since I need a new CV boot and possibly new brake rotors, I’m not optimistic. We’ll see.
UPDATE: Just got the news. Fortunately, I don’t need new brake rotors - the calipers were frozen, and can be fixed. I do need to have the axle replaced, and the grand total is $642. Considering that I don’t have a car payment, I can live with that.

Wow, it’s been so long since I owned a car that I don’t even know what brake rotors ARE, let alone a CV boot.
The Supreme Being of Your Choice help me if I ever need to own one again…
It’s the rubber boot that covers the CV joint and prevents dirt and debris from damaging it. (The CV joint is part of the drive shaft and suspension assembly.) I’m happy it’s just the boot and not the joint, because that costs a lot more.
What’s the CV joint?
It’s the constant velocity joint. It transfers the torque at a constant speed to steer the wheels.
Oh, boy… I feel as if I’ve just arrived in 2007 from the age of the Model T.
Which, considering I last owned a vehicle in 1978, I probably have!
Susie, I just saw “My cousin Vinny” this morning, and can just
see you playing Marisa Tomei’s role in the courtroom scene.
