Fun With Computers

Well, tonight I finally got around to hooking up the new computer. I attached all the plugs, turned it on and …. nothing. I mean, it went on, but there was no picture on the monitor.
To be continued, I suppose.

Did it beep? And if so, how so? There’s a lot of things(fan noise, beep pattern, hard drive noise, numlock lights, etc…) that can tell you what’s wrong, be it power supply (cheap), monitor(medium-expensive), motherboard (medium), or cpu (expensive). Hell, it could be the cables (under 10 bucks).
Did it fart? Knock? Play the PT Barnum circus theme song?
PCs RULE!
I don’t think it beeped. The fan was pretty loud for a few seconds and then it was normal.
It could also be a digital monitor plugged into an analog socket and vice-versa. Had that happen when I got a used LCD from my work adn went to hook it up. I had to pickup a couple converter adapters just to get it to work properly.
If it didn’t beep you got zip. That happens to me once in a while, which is why I almost never turn the damn thing off.
If you can’t hear the HD spin down when you power-down- it never booted.
