Somehow, I Don’t Think It’s A Problem

I think the people in Murphy’s district are as sick of the war as everyone else. And I don’t think the “Your kid should die because mine did” is gonna play all that well:
Freshman Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Pa.), the only Iraq war veteran in Congress, is facing the prospect of a re-election fight against a colonel in the Marine reserves whose son was killed in Iraq last year.
Republican Tom Manion, 53, will be kicking off his campaign against Murphy Tuesday, according to a source familiar with his intentions. His son, Marine 1st Lt. Travis Manion, was killed by a sniper last April during his second tour in Iraq.
Manion appears to be an early frontrunner for the Republican nomination and has secured key support from former GOP Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick, who was ousted by Murphy in 2006.
If Manion emerges as the Republican nominee, it appears increasingly likely that the campaign would be defined by the war in Iraq. Murphy highlighted his military service and opposition to the war in his successful campaign against Fitzpatrick.
Manion, on the other hand, has been an outspoken supporter of the war.

How about that! Manion’s son was a LaSalle High School grad and the cream of the crop.
I wager Mr. Manion will be a very impressive candidate- Murphy has his work cut out for him IMHO.
Oh yeah, that’s a very popular war, and supporting it should
guarantee the election of a challenger over an anti-war
incumbent who actually served there.
“Your kid should die because mine did” - Real class Susie. Maybe you should look into what Manion is ALL about before you label him. You are very quick to label him as a single-issue candidate, which he is not. Do your homework before you get on your computer and type hateful things.
Ultimately, what is the moral authority of a parent whose child died in a war? They’re hardly an unbiased source. They have every motivation to rationalize the war and its continuance, and many of them do. Whether you like it or not, it does boil down to other people’s children dying so that parent doesn’t have to wrestle with the possibility that their child died needlessly.
