I agree with Snuzy.

Obama is far from perfect, but he's far better than Hillary.

(heck, he was my 3rd choice behind Dodd and Edwards)

although i disagree with a lot of the snarky charges alex brings to bear (the sexual assault thing is a particular gross distortion, and how many times to i have to point out that the "adopted right wing framing about trial lawyers" charge is completely off the mark), i completely agree with susie's above comments.

i support obama because he is better than clinton. he's not my dream candidate, but no one ever is. and as much as i like nit-picking with susie's obama posts, i don't have an actual problem with the fact that she has misgivings about the guy.

and the bottom line is that both clinton and obama are far far better than george bush. what i am very excited about is the fact that we will finally get someone better in the white house.

Because unlike Republicans, we should be honest enough to accept going in that our candidates are flawed. If Democrats are noticing these things, you can be damned sure the Republicans will, too.

I don't think it serves any candidate to be elevated as a paragon of anything. It doesn't take much to knock someone off a pedestal.

What good does all this do now? 'Obama's a fraud; I guess I'll take a look at Clinton. Oh, wait, she's a shill, so back to Obama, but he's got that real estate dealo, so it's Clinton. But wait, is she electable?'

I think this is what we call the circular firing squad...

I'm not particularly happy policy-wise with these two being the bottom line choices and the fact that there's a strong chance the nomination won't decided for quite a while indicates there's not a lot of joy in mudville this spring.

But there's a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth over on the GOP side too.

I'm reminded of the post Booman had a while back about his priorities for 2008 elections: primary bad democrats with better ones in the spring, then support Senate campaigns to try to get beyond that self-defeating aspect of the Democrats. Getting better legislation out of Congress might be the best target for our energies...

The presidential nominee, whomever it is, will have plenty of attention...and support...and funding.

Good post by Alex, but I have to question that "43rd most liberal in the senate" link, which goes to Progressive Punch.
According to PP, Frank Lautenberg is the most liberal member of the senate.
The same Lautenberg who voted for the PATRIOT ACt, Yes on Real ID, and who voted for the Military Commissions Act of 2006? More liberal than Bernie Sanders? Than Russ Feingold? Than Ted Kennedy?
Gimme a break. That's just crazy talk.
