It is not homeowners and the lenders that put them into homes that wrecked the housing market but real estate speculators and unscrupulous brokers that escalated the market to a point of collapse. These invesors and their broker perpetuators were assisted by the banks that were packaging and selling their loan packages as low risk when the opposite was true. All of this pushed pricing out of line with reality which resulted in the collapse of the market. Homeowners could have made payments if the market had continued a steady increase. It was the turn and burn speculator that fueled the enormous increase in prices that made the collapse inevitable. This was assisted by those in the industry more concerned with immediate profit than long term return.
