Just So We’re Clear

Via Arthur Silber:
[T]he Center for Responsive Politics has found that campaign contributions have been a generally reliable predictor of whose side a superdelegate will take. In cases where superdelegates had received contributions from both Clinton and Obama, all seven elected officials who received more money from Clinton have committed to her. Thirty-four of the 43 superdelegates who received more money from Obama, or 79 percent, are backing him. In every case the Center found in which superdelegates received money from one candidate but not the other, the superdelegate is backing the candidate who gave them money.

we’ll see. the only data we have is who they initially support. there’s a theory that most superdelegates ultimately want to back a winner and so if it becomes clear that one candidate or another is going to win, the supers will fall in line behind them.
Oh, that isn’t what I meant at all. I only meant to point out that there was political horsetrading on both sides, while Clinton is the only one I’ve seen being painted as doing so.
As I keep saying: Obama is as much a politician as Clinton.
are you kidding? you really think people are arguing that obama isn’t a politician? or that he doesn’t engage in horse trading? i mean, obama’s own local rep used that very term with me at the last drinking liberally when he was talking about obama.
sometimes i wonder if you have stereotyped obama supporters so much, you really don’t understand what they are actually thinking.
I’m guessing you haven’t read Booman Tribune lately. Over there, the Clintons are evil incarnate and Obama is Sir Galahad the Pure. (They’re not the only site like that, either.)
It ain’t exactly nuanced.
I probably read more blogs than you (I read more blogs than most people), because I’m always out scouting for stuff. It’s not my imagination. All I can say is, read some different blogs and you’ll see what I mean.
And come on, Noz. I have neither the time nor the attention span to stereotype the Obama people. That’s not how my ADD works. By the time I actually notice something, it has to be a fairly consistent pattern. That’s how it is with everything with me.
I’m guessing you haven’t read Booman Tribune lately.
actually, i have. i suspect i’ve been reading it more than you. i know i comment there more than you do. while booman is strongly pro-obama, one of the sites other front pagers, natasha, favors clinton.
but even booman has never said that obama is not a politician, or that he doesn’t engage in horse trading, or that he is perfect, or that he’s a saint. seriously, i know a lot of pro-obama people (and a lot of anti-obama people as well), but i know no one who believes obama is not a politician or not a horse trader.
people can be strongly pro- their candidate and not think they’re perfect. no doubt you recognize that edwards and gore are not gods. there’s really nothing wrong with people being in favor of and even enthusiastic about people they like, or to argue strenously in favor of candidates as booman and others have. but that’s not even remotely the same as worshipping the candidate. and it’s not like clinton doesn’t have plenty of enthusiastic supporters as well.
look, there are plenty of reasons not to like obama. i really have no problem with my friends who prefer clinton, hell even mrs. noz is leaning clinton these days and i have nothing but respect for her reasons for going that direction. but that’s quite different as relying on stereotypes to belittle obama supporters. they’re not cultists, they don’t deny that he’s a politician. they just think he would make a good president. and frankly, i don’t think it’s any more crazy than people who think clinton would make a good president.
I’m not talking about Booman, I’m talking about the commenters. (And by the way, you may not have noticed, but Natasha has stopped writing there, for this very reason.)
I’m not talking about “real world” people. Most of the people I know are pretty level-headed. I’m talking about the online world, which is where the craziness clusters.

well that’s certainly true.
i’ve always wondered if level-headed people get more crazy when they’re online, or if crazy people just quiet until they get online.
