More and Better Democrats

I suppose this is as good a time as any to point out that, if we put enough REAL liberals in Congress, it won’t matter who’s in the White House. (Which is why you should go give Darcy Burner some money right now.)
I thought I’d like to put together a list of real progressive Congressional candidates (not just the lesser of two evils) who have at least a theoretical chance of winning, and raise as much money as I can to help.
Know any? Nominate some, please.
part of the problem is that i don’t know what you mean by this “real liberal” thing. obama is a “real liberal” on some issues, not on others. same with clinton. (and it’s the same, i would submit, with both edwards and gore) there are very very few “real liberals” on every single issue and the few that do exist tend to be very very marginalized (e.g. dennis kucinich)
i don’t have a problem with holding up an ideal and trying to get politicians to conform to that ideal. but i do have a problem if you’re going to demand ideological purity at the expense of everything else. that’s basically what nader voters are all about.
People who aren’t going to vote with the Republicans to help them pass things we’re trying to stop, or stop things we’re trying to pass. I think that’s a good place to start.
I’m not the one putting limits on it, you are. I want readers to make the best case for why we should support a specific Democrat.

The folks at FDL and Crooks and Liars and Digby jointly have a slate that they support through Blue America. The candidates are vetted by Howie Klein and they come and do online forum/q&a sessions on FDL usually on Sat. afternoons. Most of the candidates brief summaries have links to the FDL “visits.”
One of the good ones not far from us is Sam Bennett who is running against Charlie Dent in the Lehigh Valley.
I’ve been supporting Steve Harrison (NY-13: Brooklyn/Staten Island) who’ s been running against the right-wing cog Vito Fossella. It’s an uphill battle, but maybe the situation is right this year.

Carol Shea-Porter in my home state of NH is legitimately super and is in for a fight this fall. I know challengers are more fun, but Carol got largely ignored in favor of Paul Hodes last time around…
