A CBS investigation has revealed that parking tickets stemming from 85% of the parking meters in Philadelphia are invalid. Pennsylvania law requires inspectors to certify each parking meter for accuracy once every three years, but the single inspector working for Philly’s Licenses and Inspections Department, the city agency in change of certification, has visited less than 15% of all parking meters—but he has found the time to certify some meters 8 times while others go completely unchecked. As a result, thousands of parking tickets are invalid under state law.

What do you expect from big city government? Effectiveness, accuracy, an honest day’s work, ethics, integrity, efficiency, fairness, productivity? Keep dreaming.
Wendy, you are such a bitter, bit…ter, bit player.
Do you propose that big cities go ungoverned?
Or that they adopt small-town government?
What ARE you trying to say?
The Philadelphia Parking Authority was taken over by the Republican-controlled state legislature some years back, saying it wasn’t “efficient.” It promptly became even less efficient, not turning over the amount of revenue it was supposed to generate for the city, and became a huge patronage mill for the local GOP. Progress!
not only did they become a patronage mill for the GOP, they dramatically expanded both the fines and the time period in which you can get fined. And their employees have been abusing the workmans comp system. And they have been ripping off the school district.
Whenever I see the PPA vultures, I make sure to call them “thief” right to their faces, or make a snotty remark like “stop ripping off philly’s schoolchildren.” Also, when one of their cars is behind me, I slow to a crawl. I wait at green lights until they turn yellow, so they get stuck at the red light. And I ALWAYS high beam the motherfuckers when I’m behind them.
I hate the PPA. They are the absolute worst.
Oohh, such “bravery”. I’ll bet you tell off Wal-God by sneering at the minimum wage slaves checking out your merch.
PPA might be a Republican patronage machine, but I’ll bet the folks on the floor are just feeding their kids and making it through the day.
City government is lots more efficient than most of the businesses I’ve seen. CEO pay is near feudal inequity and you gripe about a city that gives millions to the great unwashed hillbilly herd. Your taxes would be kept local if the leg wasn’t shipping dollars to the white poor in the hinterlands of PA.
“PPA might be a Republican patronage machine, but I’ll bet the folks on the floor are just feeding their kids and making it through the day.”
Yeah, by calling in sick for spiderbites. You obviously haven’t had to deal with the system, or you’d be as vindictive as I am.
“I’ll bet you tell off Wal-God by sneering at the minimum wage slaves checking out your merch.”
No, I just don’t shop there.
in my experience, PPA is extremely efficient at issuing tickets. At everything else, no so much.
And yes, the GOP takeover of PPA was done by an outgoing GOP state government, in a clear attempt to grab the revenue and add lots of plum patronage jobs. And those patronage jobs are not the people riding around checking meters, I’m sure. That’s too much like “work”.
Hate to point this out but brown recluse are known to be in that part of Pennsytucky. Given the Philly environment, I would expect at least some of those bites to be more than minor.
Also, the southeast of PA is full of ticks. Can you say Lyme Disease?
Our local R machine took the Welfare Dept for the county and privatized it. Before, all the jobs paid about 36k and were unionized. Afterwards, the jobs paid 14k, except for the County Commissioner’s wife/Dept Director who was now paid 100k+. No union benefits or protections.
