It’s so unusual when a Democrat has to pay for it:
(CBS/AP) Gov. Eliot Spitzer has told senior advisers that he had been involved in a prostitution ring, The New York Times reported Monday, citing an anonymous top administration official.
Spitzer, who is married with three daughters, was scheduled to make an announcement Monday afternoon. Spitzer officials wouldn’t immediately comment on the story.
The New York Times reports that federal prosecutors arrested four people in connection with an expensive prostitution operation last week.
UPDATE: Gee, why am I not surprised? He got caught on a federal wiretap - and the case was handled by the public corruption unit at Justice. Can you say “politically motivated,” boys and girls? I knew you could!
UPDATE UPDATE: He’s probably going to resign tonight.
I’m with Glenn. I really don’t give a crap, and I don’t think he should resign.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Turns out Spitzer was caught because his bank reported large cash transactions and the feds assumed he was paying bribes. Doesn’t that make you feel good about your own privacy?
Jane has a lot of good questions. Go read them.

He should resign for terminal stupid if nothing else.
Have only one question….did they get a warrant for the wiretap???
All the blame doubtless falls on Bill Clinton, who was most assuredly running this ring out of his office in Harlem!
So was he a customer or pimp or what? What does involved with actually mean. Compare this media spin to that of the La. Republican who’s still in congress for essentially the same thing. How much you wanna bet calls for investigation help began in the White House during 2006.
David “Diapers” Vitter is a good, solid Christian man who believes totally in the blessings of the marketplace. Spitzer is an evil, pro-regulation taxer that deserves to be surreptiously recorded by our fine upstanding white FBI agents before he turns Commie and wants to provide universal health care.
No way he should resign. I would say that he should back up to the wall and fight this for all he’s worth!
Mold got it right.
The really crummy thing about this is that it enables the wingers, neocons, and rethugs to claim that people from both parties do this.
(Even though the great majority are their guys.)
