I heard Michelle Obama last night from a speech on Thursday. She reminded voters than Barack ran for State Senate on the South Side of Chicago — there are[n't?] many races tougher than a 6-sided primary there, and that they had heard it all. She stressed the similarities to this race, and there were quite a few.
Is that really what Michelle Obama’s saying? Because there was no six-sided primary to speak of in Chicago.
That’s because, in a move that angered Chicago progressives, he had all his primary opponents thrown off the ballot via petition challenges. Perfectly legal, but considered to be less than sporting for long-shot candidates.
well as someone who lived in obama’s neighborhood in chicago in 1995, it’s not really accurate to say that it “angered chicago progressives”. obama himself was viewed as more progressive than his opponents. and his only serious challenger (alice palmer) did submit a bunch of signatures that turned out to be largely fraudulent.

If Hillary Clinton still hasn’t finished her tax returns from 2001-2006, she has problems a lot bigger than Obama to worry about.
The returns will be released “on or about” April 15th - definitely before the PA primary. This has already been stated two or three times by the Clinton campaign - do you really care, or is it like a mantra, and it just makes you feel better to keep asking the question?
Noz, according to Black Agenda Report (can’t find the link yet), it certainly did anger progressives. They think it’s an abuse of the process. Not my opinion - theirs.

well, it’s definitely spin, but an “outright lie”? i wouldn’t call it that. i mean, shooting down your opponents early is part of a political race. i mean, it clearly isn’t the same as what obama will face against mccain. so she’s spinning on behalf of her husband? isn’t that what political spouses do?

From where I sit, that’s a pretty damn good point to remember. They’re both fuckin’ political pros. Politicians can’t be trusted. Cynical? You bet. Doesn’t make it any less true. I’d vote for either, but completely trust neither.
What’s the deal with candidates making tax returns public?
Is it a legal requirement?
Do they all do it?
If she’s a senator, aren’t her returns automatically released?
They make financial statements that are pretty comprehensive, but the numbers are only given in ranges.

AFAIK, those are financial statements about income and assets, rather than tax returns.
Is Hillary behind on issuing those?

Well, the only tax return that Obama has made public is from 2006. When is he going to release HIS earlier ones? And why do we care about these tax returns? Does anyone know what is in them, or is it just a meme that people hear over and over and so they start spouting it themselves? Maybe Hillary’s tax returns prove she killed Vince Foster? The whole topic is only brought up when Obama is on the spot for something he brought on himself, which seems to happen somewhat frequently for a guy with such great judgment. Then it’s, “where are Hillary’s tax returns?” If that’s the best you can do to defend Obama, it’s pretty pitiful.
