So, the argument is that time-honored one; does the will of the many outweigh the will of the few? Not quite what I mean, but now I understand.
It also reflects a distrust of the party machinery. I can understand that. But it doesn’t answer the question of what should replace the current machinery, and ends up looking like a tantrum. I agree that the process has to change, but it has to change every where, and not just this one point, and not while the house is afire, or the horse is running away. That debate has not started, or at least hasn’t grown to the level where it can be heard.
Note that, if the whole idea of superdelegates is for the party to keep its thumb on the scale, the question of “which candidate is better for the party” is not one that Fish appears to think is legitimate, as opposed to individual superdelegates gaming for individual advantage. (Obama supporters believe that he’s bringing new voters to the party, and that Clinton isn’t.) And I’ve always felt that if your argument depends on the wisdom of Alexander Hamilton, then you’re probably wrong, and flirting with dangerous authoritarianism.
Stanley Fish, an artist whose medium is BS. Seriously, I like this site, but you are really demeaning yourself with your willingness to endorse any kind of nonsense Hillary can dream up to continue her doomed campaign.
