Bogus Emails

Yeah, here’s another fake email. This one’s comparing Clinton’s and Obama’s legislative record - someone sent it to me, I didn’t have the time or energy to debunk it. How nice of Newsweek to get Factcheck.org do it for me! (Kudos to them, by the way, for fact checking this insidious sort of email. I have to say, they’re doing a much better job with this cycle than they did in ‘04.)
One final thought: Recently we published a special report warning readers about the high level of inaccuracy in chain e-mails. This one is no exception. In fact, with its anonymous author and grammatical errors, not to mention a redundancy or two, it’s a classic of the genre. If you find one of these e-mails in your in-box, our suggested course of action remains the same: Just hit delete.
I was talking to someone last night who mentioned he’d noticed a real knowledge gap with a lot of the most rabid Obama supporters online. He said they don’t seem to have a clue about the reasons why Bill Clinton had to make legislative compromises, or just what kind of massive, sustained attack they were under during those years.
I think that lack of historical context may account for the bitterness of the generation divide in this primary.
