Soullite, lots and lots of blogs have added registering for comments, moderation, shut down comments, opened up comments, got rid of registration, added capchas, etc. etc. Just in the past six months.

Some of that, I'm sure, was the normal churning between different blogging setups and having to fend off spam attacks. As well as dealing with barbarian hordes of conservitards, unsatisfied with their own candidates. You don't need a conspiracy to explain it.

And while I think that we call can benefit from growing some thicker skin regarding with others say, and being more temperate in what we ourselves say, I really, really, emphasize with Susie. Who wants to be the equivalent of a playground monitor on their blog?

I remember when Suzie didn't have comments, hemmed and hawed over opening comments, and then was a tad chapped when I had to 'sign-up' to comment with someone who I had, 'till then, regularly communicated with via e-mail. As I recall, based upon my experience with bulletin board flame-wars, I advised against it.

But then again, I'm a professional. I don't put anything in my correspondence I wouldn't want my mom, or the cops, to see.

If someone acts like an asshole in my living room they get the shit kicked out of them; commenters in my comments get invited outside with the admonishment that you don't have to be a peace freak to be against war, and a graphic detail of just what without hesitation I would do. 'Yawl are getting off easy.

'Course, I get so few hits and comments that it's so much more fun to disenvowel them. Though I do wish someone would write a script to automate the process.

I have a similar rule at my site, and it is the only rule I have for comments. Say what you like, but if you are abusive to the site owner, you get one warning. Twice, you are banned. It's a simple rule and easy to follow but you'd be surprised at how it is ignored.

Curiously, the most recent cases were Obama supporters because I had the audacity to say that I wasn't a big fan of either Democratic candidate, but between the two left, I prefer Senator Clinton to Senator Obama. A pretty mild statement, but it brought the nastiest response.

Everybody, take a deep breath and relax. If you check here regularly you know I don't exactly see eye-to-eye with Susie and ain't shy about saying so. Strangely, I've had no problems with her. All she's asking for is some decorum. Nothing to get upset about.
Peace.

Kinda ironic when you call an unhappy visitor "a whiny ass titty baby" but ask us to comment as if we are visiting you in your living room.

I suggest you get a mirror for that living room of yours and use it once in a while.

huh, well one would hope that ingrid's withering prose isn't an example of this blog blooming.

for the record, i don't know of a single clinton supporter who would support mccain and i resent the meme. i think it's more likely that lots of first time voters who registered so they could vote for obama will just stay home in the GE putting everyone at risk. but hey, that's just how i see it.

Well then, I guess you'll have to invite me over, so I can properly gauge the stuff I'd be likely to say in your living room.

For instance, if your living room contains any children, I probably wouldn't feel comfortable using some words I normally deploy when talking about the current Administration.

When Obama wins the nomination, all the Hillary supporters can go vote for St. John McCain, then they'll be home again, having come full circle in their new age spiritual development, the country and their own best interests be damned.

I'm sure you believe what your wrote Soulite but don't actually expect anyone that hasn't already drunk the Kool-Aid to agree.

The rules instituted at various blogs I presume are put there to keep the waves of Obama surrogates that practice drive by fruitings from having comments swamped with talking points.

There certainly are enough blogs for Obama surrogates to congregate and heave dittos to each other. It's shameful that sites that support Clinton, either unstiltingly or tepidly have to endure uninspired, regurgitated expressions that fail to convey a single original thought.

What does continue to shock the conscience of Clinton supporters is the deafness of tone as expressed by Obama supporters as if they are completely unconcerned that should Obama win the nomination, they will have played a large role in ensuring a lack of support from a significant portion of the Democratic party.

Haven't you noticed so many of them suddenly instituting closed comments, registration requirements and 'new' (or newly enforced) rules governing what can and can not be said?

I don't think it's a coincidence that so many Clinton bloggers respond to criticsm and vitriol that way, while very few Obama bloggers have. It's part of what made them willing to support Clinton in the first place. You don't back a candidate that hates American popular culture without having a little disdain for the American people.

Maybe if you allowed anonymous posting you'd have a more robust discussion and more people would come her for an exchange of ideas rather than to praise and/or parrot what you write. Just a suggestion.
Fear keeps this blog from blooming. Dispense with the ego needs and see what happens...
