(newser) – A Georgia man who took his own life last week had lived 12 years after receiving a transplanted heart from a South Carolina man who also committed suicide, police said. And in a twist worthy of Edgar Allan Poe, the donor’s widow had met and married the recipient, the Hilton Head Island Packet reports.
Terry Cottle died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in 1995, when Sonny Graham was on the verge of succumbing to congestive heart failure. Graham received Cottle’s heart and later got in touch with his family to express his thanks. He and Cheryl Cottle met in 1997 and married in 2004. “I felt like I had known her for years,” he said later.

Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man, that he didn’t already have.
That’s right Wendy, keep it classy.
Two suicides… same wife… suspicious? Maybe I’ve seen too many movies.
Wow…Wendy’s comment (was #2): gone.
Somehow, I think there’s a country-western song in this…
Wasn’t there a book about this, where people who had received heart transplants started developing characteristics of the donor? All I can remember is some story about somebody who suddenly craved cheeseburgers.
And let’s keep our cause and correlation straight here, children.
k, quit commenting before you’ve read all the way through all the links.
Ew.
I read about that cheeseburger craving transplant recipient. The teenage donor loved Burger King & the recipient started to crave them.
Amazing how many of our decisions come from the heart, (or the lack of heart - see current administration). There are many instances of the heart winning out over the head, this was just a really bizarre example.
So is the heart up for grabs again, or did they bury it with the second owner?
