Blogger Ethics Conference

Michael Tomasky says the blogger who reported Obama’s comments at the San Francisco fundraiser shouldn’t have reported them - because she made a donation.
I’ll have some thoughts later, but in the meantime, have at it.

Huh? What’s the one got to do with the other? Is he trying to impose the high-and-mighty ethics of the Washington press corps (”I don’t vote; it might sway my objectivity!”) on the rest of the planet?
Normally I like Tomasky’s thinking, but he’s off the mark here.
Maybe Mayhill should have used the Russert principle of everything is off the record unless it’s agreed that it’s on the record.
I’m pretty sure that this type of process will not lead to quality news reporting.
This is simply whining about something that appears to be a problem and is typical of ’shoot the messenger’ mentality that clearly wants to ignore the larger issue.
