A clean desk is a sign of someone with too little work.
I would silently have this argument with my former supervisor. Whenever we had visitors he would insist on a neat and organized desk for everyone. His desk always seemed orderly and cleared. He is long gone due to his cluelessness about what we did. I seem to still be not only gainfully employed, but also appreciated for my contribution to the company. Go figure!
An empty mind?
Somebody who was just asked to clear out all her/his possessions?
For some reason that adage always reminds me of Nikki Giovanni’s “Show me someone who is not full of herself and I’ll show you an empty person.”

Well, psychiatrists will tell you that too spare of a home or office can be a sign of the inability to form lasting attachments. Maybe too clean a desk is in that vein.
It’s a very clear sign that it is not my desk.
Seriously, it means the person is a J on the Myers-Briggs, and, imo, more likely to be a control freak.
