I mean, this is <b>basic</b>. A group of humans, whether it calls itself a "civilization" or "the Springfield High chess club", had better invest some effort in bringing along the next generation, or it'll face extinction. Correction: it's not JUST humans, all organisms face the same imperative. It's just that humans are much more easily distracted by shiny moronic economic theories about how they can fund schools with tax-cuts and crap like that. File it under “common sense isn’t”.

I mean, this is basic. A group of humans, whether it calls itself a “civilization” or “the Springfield High chess club”, had better invest some effort in bringing along the next generation, or it’ll face extinction.
