Turns out that Hill actually did take a shot at Obama this time as well, repeating her line that she wouldn't have belonged to that church, while also denouncing the Republican Wright attack ad, and McCain. So her statement here was in fact a mixed bag, and certainly political gamesmanship in some degree (shocking that a politician would do such a thing, I know). But ... could be worse, she didn't have to denounce the ad at all. Eh. Mixed messages ... head hurts ...

Speaking of the Rev Wright, he just gave a pretty good account of himself in a speech before the National Press Club, saying, among other thingsL

"I served six years in the military. Does that make me patriotic? How many years did (Vice President Dick) Cheney serve?"

"My goddaughter's unit just arrived in Iraq this week while those who call me unpatriotic have used their positions of privilege to avoid military service while sending over 4,000 American boys and girls to die over a lie."

Touché.

I'll give Clinton points for saying what she has now, rather than sidestepping the issue and letting it stand, which she could easily have done.

Having said that, she did take her shot at Obama on this earlier, when she proclaimed that she would have left Wright's church if she'd heard him say all those horrible things, adding fuel to that fire.

But these new Wrighjt/Obama attacks are not Hillary's, and she is doing right to denounce them now, and McCain. It's politically not hard for her to do so under these circumstances (dissing potential opponent Mccain, while distancing herself from the Wright attacks as others make them), and I wouldn't exactly call it solidarity, but still ... good for her for making this statement in clear and forthright terms. She didn't have to say it that way, glad she did.
