I think Wright was sent out to take Obama down. O's refusal to debate Hillary anymore makes him look weak even to some of his supporters. Hillary is going to win the remaining closed primaries. Down-ticket Dems are being tarred by association with Wright. Wright came out to usher O off the stage. (And is it just me, or is Wright saying that working hard in school is "acting white"? Does he want the youth to be ignorant and unemployable?)

It occured to me, with all this brouhaha over Wright, that Obama should no more disown him than Bush or Cheney should disown extremist zealots like Reverend O'Reilly, or Pastor Limbaugh. These nutjobs can rant their insanity about bombing San Francisco, spew their lies and inaccuracies and in general their hatred for America, yet these cheerleaders for the neo-cons, these "spiritual" leaders, are unscathed and left on the air. I am one of those that believe Nazis should not have their free speech of hatred, neither should these pill popping blathering fools, that, as a German once told Hemingway as he was listening to a hatemonger scream about "The Jews ruining Germany": "These type of people led Germany to ruin in WWI, and now they will do it again."

Yes, I say these "reverends" hate America. As Bono said about Helter Skelter, "Manson stole this song, we're stealing it back". If 70% of people are against Bush, against the war, then the other 30% must "hate" America, it's not the other way around, i.e. if I don't wear a lapel pin that signifies my support (and incredible contribution) towards an illegal, injust war - that's because the majority of Americans are decent honest folk that deplore the horror, the horror, that is inflicted in our good name. That is Unamerican.

Obama is a study of character. If he had only said, "this is my pastor and also my friend. He has some pretty outrageous views that I don't particularly support but nonetheless I love him for who he is. And that is all I am going to say about it because this man is family to me." If he had said that I would be praising him for his strength of character. But first he disavowed being in the church when those statements from Wright were made. (Lie) Then he let the man get pummeled by the press and said nothing. (Wuss) And then when things started heating up and Wright called him just another politician, he then got all huffy and severed all ties. (Scumbag) His ambition has gotten in the way of his sense of loyalty and that is as much as I need to know about Obama.

Glad to see the left out in force today in comments. Hip hip hooray! A right-wing smear distracting attention from the real problems faced by this country is working!!!! Yayyyyyy!!!
Speaking only for myself, I can honestly say at no time have I considered voting for Rev. Wright for president.
Of course white_n_az can’t vote for Clinton either, not after she threw Penn under the bus.....right white_n_az? I mean, being the ever-so-sensitive person you obviously are no way in hell you could vote for a politician who had ever acted in a politically expedient manner.
And Lambert is so right. Screw Obama and his religiosity. In a country in which 90% of the population considers themselves religious how stupid is it for someone running for national office to be religious and ever mention it in the public square.
Richard Dawkins for president!! Yeah that's the ticket.
Pathetic, absolutely pathetic.

I disagree that it's unfair. Obama made his religiosity part of his appeal. Now that's blown up in his face. I couldn't be more pleased, (a) if it leads to fewer Democrats pimping out their Gods in the public square, and (b) if it causes Obama to lose the nomination (which it should, because it's going to lose him the general). I'm playing the world's smallest violin for Obama on this one; and the whole situation is covered in Matthew 6:2.

unfair? The man he called his spiritual mentor? The man who he called 'family?'

The man that he said..."I would no sooner disown Reverend Wright than my white grandmother who raised me..." ?

Guess what...he disowned him in 5 weeks time.

Unfair? What's unfair is the expectation that he will stand behind anything/anybody if he has to pay a political price.
