The Future

Sure sounds like we’re planning to stay a while, huh?
BAGHDAD - Forget the rocket attacks, concrete blast walls and lack of a sewer system. Now try to imagine luxury hotels, a shopping center and even condos in the heart of Baghdad.
That’s all part of a five-year development “dream list” — or what some dub an improbable fantasy — to transform the U.S.-protected Green Zone from a walled fortress into a centerpiece for Baghdad’s future.
But the $5 billion plan has the backing of the Pentagon and apparently the interest of some deep pockets in the world of international hotels and development, the lead military liaison for the project told The Associated Press.

I read about that plan, and chills go down my spine. It sounds so much like one of those creepy Disney™ planned & gated communities.
Hey, wait. Wasn’t there some sort of news article/rumor floating around about starting a theme park outside of Baghdad? Is there going to be a monorail link between the park and the Green Zone?
That would be kinda cool, in a totally fucking batshit insane kind of way.
I would say who in the hell would fly or drive thru chaos to get to a luxury enclave in Baghdad, but I understand there are idle rich with infinitely more money than sense.
However, given the quality of the other Bush crony-built projects in Iraq - with things like sewage leaking from the ceilings - not even thrillseekers would stay there twice.
this is like the original plan for baghdad envisioned by the neocons before invading, when we were gonna be greeted with hearts and flowers. remember? the whole totally (awesome!) free market would grow and thrive without pesky u.s. regulations and all that slave labor! of course, once the debacle began, no one wanted to go in because of the “security” situation. and of course nothing has changed so it’s kinda funny that they are trotting this shit out again. notice how marriot refused to comment on the “done deal.” i’m thinking it’s because they are not investing there at all but our tax dollars must be paying them to go there. (more neocon free market i presume.)
and one has to wonder how much of our money has gone into this planning…all those beautiful drawings and blueprints. this is the military’s job now? guys, just go masturbate instead please!
In a February 2005 appearance Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on CBS-TV’s Face the Nation, she said she agreed with Republican Sen. John McCain that concerning Iraq:
“It’s not so much a question of time when it comes to American military presence for the average American; I include myself in this. But it is a question of casualties. We don’t want to see our young men and women dying and suffering these grievous injuries that so many of them have. We’ve been in South Korea for 50-plus years. We’ve been in Europe for 50-plus. We’re still in Okinawa with respect to protection there coming out of World War II.”
Today Hillary supposedly claims that things were much better for our troops in 2005 (they weren’t) so that’s why she’s changed her mind. It has nothing to do with pandering to get Democratic votes, no siree.
