Feeling Safer Yet?

Via Marcy, this reassuring news:
According to a senior government official who served with high-level security clearances in five administrations, “There exists a database of Americans, who, often for the slightest and most trivial reason, are considered unfriendly, and who, in a time of panic, might be incarcerated. The database can identify and locate perceived ‘enemies of the state’ almost instantaneously.” He and other sources tell Radar that the database is sometimes referred to by the code name Main Core. One knowledgeable source claims that 8 million Americans are now listed in Main Core as potentially suspect. In the event of a national emergency, these people could be subject to everything from heightened surveillance and tracking to direct questioning and possibly even detention.
Digby has more.

Just remember, for the past 8 years (and in many instances before), every time we’ve collectively said, “No, they’d never do that!” we were proved wrong.
What was it exactly hat Arlo said about that file in Virginia? While more likely me, whose photo of tossing a tear-gas grenade back at the cops once graced a prominent magazine, never-the-less, that would you and me, and every one else like us.
Welcome to The Revolution, it won’t be televised… and we have no choice.
Isn’t this the type of shit the rethugs and reich wingers said would come to pass because of liberal government. It appears Orwell was about 20 years early in his prediction of the advent of Big Brother.
I’m not sure if I should be worried or flattered to find out my name is on the list.
We talked about this a while ago, when the construction of the camps was first talked about.
First, does anyone know the location of these camps? Can we have pictures and maps?
Second, could this be a Republican disinformation campaign?
Third, who else will be wearing a red carnation in their lapel?
Holy …. Now that makes me want to shut up and tiptoe around.
You, me and people like us (you know, mouthy outspoken bitches) are going to be the ones who get dragged into the camps. And those lovers of freedom and liberty on the Right will stand aside and cheer and maybe throw bottles at us.
If the next terrorist attack comes when a Republican is in the White House, it will be the excuse they need for an American version of Kristallnacht.
