Most of my heroes don’t appear on stamps

Yeah, I know I posted this last week, but I’ve been on a bit of a Chuck D kick lately.
I’m actually not much of a Rap fan, but since we’re in the neighborhood, this tune is still just as devastating as it was a few years ago.
Back to Public Enemy. The reason that Chuck D sounds like he’s lording over the music is the way he treats the beat. He’s always just a sliver of a hair ahead of beat and that creates tension and forward motion. He’s pushing the beat. Forward motion is a concept lost on far too many pop bands. It’s a shame.
