Some Stuff

In comments yesterday, while attempting to explain something fairly obvious to a person with comprehension problems, I wrote that every member of the media establishment could have Chomsky sitting on their bedside table and it really wouldn’t make much of a difference. The content is king, and the content is not liberal.
Now this doesn’t fit in perfectly with that, but it’s in the same ballpark:
JESSICA YELLIN, CNN CONGRESSIONAL CORRESPONDENT: I think the press corps dropped the ball at the beginning. When the lead-up to the war began, the press corps was under enormous pressure from corporate executives, frankly, to make sure that this was a war that was presented in a way that was consistent with the patriotic fever in the nation and the president’s high approval ratings.
And my own experience at the White House was that, the higher the president’s approval ratings, the more pressure I had from news executives — and I was not at this network at the time — but the more pressure I had from news executives to put on positive stories about the president.

Reminds me of working for a small town newspaper where I was constantly reminded that our readers were older, lotsa retired, and wanted to hear about lower taxes and expenses. I did a column for them, that got edited, quite often to exchange ‘before’ and ‘after’.
La plus ca change.
Wish susie the best, I have a pinched nerve so I really empathize.
Warning: Above correlation between positive presidential approval ratings and positive media stories in reversed during Democratic administrations.
“Is” reversed, of course. Darn fingers.
Chris:
You are still an idiot. Think Yellin has ever voted anything but Democrat? Even once in her entire life?
Wendy, it’s irrelevant. If you put your mind to it, you’ll understand why I write that. I promise you that it’s not hard.
no chris, you’re missing wendy’s point. see, anyone who votes democrat must be lying. it’s just one of those simple universal truths. hell, i vote democrat all the time and i’m lying right now.
wendy whinner is an asshole.
she called chris an idiot, so i figure i can say the only thing i’ve really been wanting to say for the past couple months.
Wendy, go read Eric Alterman. Please. Do us all a favor. And … do you ACTUALLY know how Ms. Yellin votes? And is that even germaine to the point being made? Yeesh.
