At today’s House Judiciary Subcommittee on Civil Rights hearing on torture, Lawrence Wilkerson, former chief of staff to Colin Powell, told Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) that over 100 detainees have died in U.S. custody, with up to 27 of these declared homicides.

God damn, what have we become. How many in Congress, including Democrats knew about this and did nothing. War Crimes trials are the only answer, if we are ever to remove this stain on our society. I remember some years back, someone wrote a book about the fascist tendencies in America and how we’d been moving in that direction for a number of years. I forget the name, something like ‘American Fascism.’ He and his book were called outrageous, it could never happen here, the man portrayed as a liberal loon. I remember when several of us declared the Raygun administration the first steps to fascism in America and were told to shut up, we were foolish, sophomoric. Well here we are today and the evidence could not be more damning.
Well, what will the spineless and/or corrupt majority in congress do about this?
