Bullying

Historiann always has such interesting things to say about how gender issues play out in academia, and today she focuses in on the contagious culture of bullying that can infect a workplace. Not just for academics - or women.

It’s not just a gender issue.

I recall a study written years ago that showed that most people who are changing jobs cite “higher pay” as the reason, but many of them are lying because the new jobs pay the same or even less.

Better working conditions, including escaping a “hostile work environment” is often the real reason.

I’ve worked jobs I hated even though the pay was good. The way I was treated made the pay insufficient.

Bullying of Academics in Higher Education

The bullying of academics follows a pattern of horrendous, Orwellian elimination rituals, often hidden from the public.
