A Bad Day Gets Worse

I drove to the drugstore this evening and suddenly the noise in my front end has become really loud and whiny and chopper-sounding when I accelerate (I’m thinking wheel bearing). My mechanic is away until after the holiday, I can’t for the life of me remember my sign-in to try to reserve a car at PhillyCarShare, and the regular car rental agency won’t let me reserve without a major credit card. All of my friends with extra cars are away for the holiday. I’m screwed.
I want to sit in the corner and cry.
I just can’t tell you what extraordinarily bad timing this is.

That totally sucks Susie. I hope you have an unexpected turn of good fortune very soon.
Does Philly RideShare have a way to access your account without the login?
Does a nearby college have a rideshare board, that lists places near where you need to go?
Are there gypsy buses (like the NYC Fung Wah buses between cities) that can get you close? Can you use that type of bus then use local transit?
I know being without a car sucks. I hope things get better soon.
it sounds like bearing or CV joint.
whiny and louder at speed but changes in a turn is usually bearing.
cv joint is more “clicky” and sometimes it can feel like you aren’t getting full power when you accelerate.
you can often drive for a bit with such issues, I drove my bad cv joint around for a long time before taking it to get fixed–when it goes you will here a big thunk and get even more noise.
if it is just a bearing that isn’t such a big deal, it will just get very loud and annoying
Susie,
I had that happen to me. All you have to do is call up Philly Car Share and give them your name. They can find your sign-in number and make the reservation on the same telephone call. Dry your tears, get out of that corner and give it a try. Your timeing just got better.
Have a great holiday weekend.
