You know how it’s a recession when your neighbor loses his job and a depression when you lose yours?
It’s officially a depression.

You are a Working Class Warrior, also known as a blue-collar Democrat. You believe that the little guy is getting screwed by conservative greed-mongers and corporate criminals, and you’re not going to take it anymore.

Izquierdo–I think what Susie’s saying is that she lost her job. And, if so, I’m so sorry, Susie. I hope something better wings its way to you tootsweet.
Jeebus what a bummer. Only thing to do is hunker down and hope this is just an ‘opportunity’ in disguise. Though it is not any consolation, you are joining a growing segment of the American dream.
I’m so sorry.
Fight like hell to keep it - did they follow all the rules, implied contracts, verbal contracts, promises, etc, etc? Failing that get as much severance pay as you can squeeze out of them. Try to let them keep your medical coverage for the next year. Collect good letters of recommendations.
Belt-tightening is a bitch, (unless you are losing weight intentionally). Sorry you’re having to look for employment again. Of course, maybe now you’ll write more and increase your subscription level. There could be a bright side.
My company let a hundred people go early this year at various offices and manufacturing plants throughout the country. I kept my job and took a 38% pay cut; I also promised to do more with less.
I have to admit that I’m much less inclined to work nights and weekends now. I’ve actually gotten out and ridden my bike a few times this spring and summer.
That sucks! There has been significant downsizing where I work, but I have been assured that I should be Ok. I certainly hope so cuz at 60 I’d hate to have to make a change. Put your donation button back up and I’ll help out when I can!
I’m so sorry to hear this. I hope that things turn around soon.
Fuck.
And it was a surprise this time, wasn’t it?
Bummer. I’ve actually been feeling pretty good that you’de been doing so well while I’m doing day labor. Flagging traffic sucks.
Maybe it’s time to start a revolution.
Jeez, I’m so sorry. I’ll be sending good thoughts your way.
I am still in awe of your ability to remain eloquent about such a major life event. Your blog remains one of the most personal and informative of the progressive A list.
Take time for a breather before you try to hit the jobsearch again, and put the paypal button back on the top of the site.
Note to all: There are (4) tabs at the top of the page. I found the PayPal button on tab #3 ‘Donate Here’, (between the email form and the bio).
For all you do for others, karma will come around for you. I hope it is soon. May the goddess/FSM/deity of your choice bless you in your time of need.
sorry to hear the bad news susie,
I am sure something will turn up soon.
Argghhh.
Hang in there, kiddo. This too will pass.
If you are facing unemployment, I’m very sorry to hear it. Courage! Something will come your way! And keep on fighting the Power!!!
So sorry to hear about the job loss.
Here is a post from about a month and a half ago that I put up for another unemployed blogger.
