Thought for the Day

From the comments section responding to yet another variation on the “why oh why aren’t there more women political bloggers” theme:
Some of the best political writing I see is on personal blogs, and it’s intertwined with personal writing. Because their blogs hybridize the personal and the political (which is how most people actually experience the two), they don’t get the attention and respect a blog traditionally in the “male” realm of “politics” gets from mainstream media.
Discuss!

Actually the blend of personal and political characterizes a lot of male bloggers too (like me, for example!) - with the same results. But I think it could be true that female bloggers do it more often.
The Sideshow, with the bra of the week, and Shakesville veering off into shoes. Pretty nasty stuff.
It occurs to me that the only “male” political blog I read any more is Eschaton. I guess beer and barbecue turn me off. And I vote!
Just before the portion that you quote, that Salon comment stated:
Why do we consider the body, illness, the personal, the emotional, and anything pertaining to the realm of home (like motherhood) to be on the margins of society? They are just as crucial and just as important.
These are more crucial and more important; they are the world we are born into and socialized in, where we learn and are taught the fundamentals of being a person in a family. The larger world of politics et al. comes later.
