After all, we still have a bunch of nuts running the country:
WASHINGTON — Bush administration officials reassured Israel’s defense minister this week that the United States has not abandoned all possibility of a military attack on Iran, despite widespread Israeli concern that Washington has begun softening its position toward Tehran.
In meetings Monday and Tuesday, administration officials told Defense Minister Ehud Barak that the option of attacking Iran over its nuclear program remains on the table, though U.S. officials are primarily seeking a diplomatic solution.
At the same time, U.S. officials acknowledged that there is a rare divergence in the U.S. and Israeli approaches, with Israelis emphasizing the possibility of a military response out of concern that Tehran may soon have the know-how for building a nuclear bomb.
And I doubt that the US military has “abandoned all possibility of an attack on Lichtenstein” either. That’s just not something they do.
The question is not whether the military has abandoned plans, but whether Cheney’s office has.

The US toppled their elected government (1953) and raped their oil assets, and trained their police interrogators to torture. That turned the entire nation against us and against any Westernized opposition to the Shah. Eventually, the only thing that was left were the Islamic militants behind Khomeni, some of whom kidnapped the American diplomats when they feared the US was going to reinstall the Shah.
And did I mention that an American missile shot an Iran Air Lines 747 out of the sky, killing all passengers?
Maybe with your “Go to War” agitation, you can solidify all of Iranian support behind an otherwise unpopular Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, so that he isn’t just a nutty figurehead in a government dominated by clerics.

These “protect America nuts” are “fake experts who purchased fake diplomas” busted by the IRS’ criminal investigation of the diploma mill — the judge ordered the list of fake experts to be hidden but alas, there are stealth TRUE PATRIOTS who deem our nation deserves QUALIFIED experts to replace all the highly paid fakes in DC and climes.

Naturally the common people don’t want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.

Ye gods, you people are ignorant. How on earth did you wingers ever manage to establish the meme that you’re supposed to be knowledgeable about military affairs?
For the edification of those people who actually read, here is a little piece that Stratfor’s George Friedman recently posted up at a public venue: Fortress Iran is Virtually Impregnable to a Successful Invasion.
This one deserves some careful reading. Friedman lays this out from the geography to the ethnography.
You can just leave all those big M1A1s at home, because you’re not going to be fighting any armor maneuver battles in Iran. Not in those mountains. You fight in Iran, you fight with light infantry. Period.
And like pretty much any other mountain country anywhere else on earth, the place is an ethnic crazy quilt. Which means that every little mountain tribe is going to fight like so many rabid wolverines on drugs. Since each little enclave is a law unto itself absent central authority, you can’t “win” by simply paralyzing or decapitating the government in Tehran. Not going to work. Expect to get ambushed on a daily basis, because you will be.
Getting supply convoys through those mountains is going to be lots and lots of fun. But not as much fun as it’ll be if your people run out of beans and bullets only to face yet another human wave of suicide volunteers. Most of the population is dirt poor, so they’ve not much to lose. And damn near all of them are Shia. Which means that they all understand kamikaze math quite well to start with.
I could go on.
Iran looks like a really nice place for just about any invader to fight a hundred year’s war and then lose it.
