Vote for McCain because he’s unpopular and boring!

This weekend I was treated to my first viewing of the “attack ad” that John McCain is running against Obama here in Pennsylvania (posted below the fold) and all I have to say is: HAHA! I don’t know who McCain’s media/messaging advisers are, but I have a feeling they’ve worked for a company like WorldCom, Enron, or Pets.com. I swear the only reason that I even knew it was a McCain ad is that it flashed the words “new taxes” and had his name at the end.
The ad starts off with pictures of hundreds of thousands of people cheering while they wave the American flag, and the statement, “He’s the most popular man in the world” (because nobody wants to vote for the popular guy!), and then flashes to pictures of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton (so they’re just reaffirming that he’s even more popular than these very popular personalities), before flashing to pictures of a very Presidential-looking Obama while the crowds roar “Oh-Bah-Mah! Oh-Bah-Mah!”
Now, the ad does manage to take some swipes at Obama, but how many people will even read or hear them? The answer: not many. Most people will look at the ad and think: “Yeah, I like him too” or “I wish I was at that rally” or “Man, that guy is REALLY awesomariffic”. The ad gets you nice and primed to answer the question “But is he ready to lead?” with a big “Hell yeah! Why isn’t he president yet?”
I’m not really sure who thought up this brilliant ad, but it gives me some ideas for campaign slogans for McCain.
John McCain: Unpopular then, unpopular now.
John McCain: Vote for Grumpy!
John McCain: “You kids get the hell outta my yard!”
John McCain: He goes to bed at 8pm.
Anyone have any other good slogans for McCain’s “campaign”?
