Sick Bay Report

Hi kids, I’m alive! Maya would have posted an update last night but as you know, the server crashed. Thanks to Chris for getting us back online.
The pain? Two kinds. The first and most noticeable for now is, the sutures they’re going to adjust this morning feel like a bunch of porcupine needles sticking in my eye. The second pain (the one that’s just started to manifest) is as if the muscles in my right eye have just run a marathon and hurt just when I move them. You’d be amazed how much you move your eyes, even with a patch on them. Arghh.
The Percocet just barely takes the edge off. Everyone who promised me the entire experience would be pain-free? They lied. Or perhaps they’re just blessed with an overabundance of roptimism.
Because I live alone, it tales a village to take care of me when I’m sick, and thank God for friends.
My very gracious friend Amy took me to the hospital and picked me up. Apparently I was out a lot longer than I though because by the time we got back to my apartment, it was after 5. I actually think that had a lot more to do with the Benadryl they have me for nausea than the general anesthesia; it always makes me feel like I’ve been on a three-day bender, which is why I generally avoid it. (It’s what they use in a lot of over-the-counter sleep medication.)
Then, because Maya was delayed getting here after work and assorted other logistics, my lovely landlady picked up my prescriptions at the local pharmacy for me and told me not to hesitate to call if I needed anything.
Maya showed up shortly after, and then her husband Jim and daughter C. came bearing gifts: Dinner from Boston Market! (Sweet potatoes never tasted so good.)
I had a fitful night’s sleep, but what the hell. It’s not as if I have to go to work today. I have to go back this morning as I mentioned, and thank God Maya will be there with me.
Oh, and did I mention the $200 co-pay I got hit with yesterday morning? I never thought to check my policy, and if it hadn’t been for the recent donations, I probably would have had to cancel. So thanks to everyone who donated.
