I was talking to a friend on the phone tonight, and he’s still saying he wouldn’t be surprised if McCain staged his own assassination attempt, getting himself shot in the leg and then campaigning the last few weeks from his hospital bed.
What could I tell him, that they’d never stoop to such a thing?

but getting himself shot could be really dangerous, even if it’s just the leg. bullets can cause a shock wave to go through the blood stream with could cause a heart attack, especially in older people. maybe mccain would be desperate enough to do such a thing, but only if no one informed him of all the dangers of even a shot in the leg.
Hell, why not?
He’s already shot himself in the foot many times.
Snuzy, the lesson of Bob Roberts is that the appearance of an assassination attempt is all that is really necessary. McCain doesn’t have to actually get hit - just produce enough personal physicians who say he did that everyone believes them. He then hobbles around or wheels around earning sympathy. And, if his ratings need a further boost, there’s always a “miraculous” recovery to be had…
