So much for that 50-state strategy:
We tried to get Plouffe to react to a spate of national polls showing a tightening race.
“All we care about is these 18 states,” he said. He repeated, with emphasis, that the campaign does not care about national polling. Instead, the campaign’s own identification, registration and canvassing efforts provide the data he uses to determine where to invest money and resources.

I’m a little unsure what the purpose of this little dig is. Would you have Obama spend equal amounts of time in Ohio and Utah? Did Obama ever claim that he’d employ the 50-state strategy in the GE? Isn’t it enough that states like Virginia and Georgia are in play for the first time in decades?
JKFriz, I hope you weren’t one of the people coming around last spring aghast, simply aghast [clutches pearls, fan self] that Clinton followed a strategy about where to devote her time and resources and how dare she - dare she! - suggest that little states don’t count as much as big states. The nerve!
If you were, your ability to stop on dime and turn 180 degrees simply amazes me.
When you read it in context, it seems to me that he’s saying that for polling purposes they only care about 18 states’ polls. That certainly doesn’t mean that he only cares about winning in 18 states. I think the campaign has done a remarkable job creating campaign offices in many places that were not developed in the last election cycle. This is good not only for Obama’s campaign, but for the Democratic Party and down ticket candidates and future Democratic Party leaders. Where do we disagree Susie?
what foraker said. the quote doesn’t contradict the 50-state strategy at all. in fact, the obama campaign is still following it. the strategy is about opening local campaign offices–which is what they’re doing right now all over the country. it has nothing to do with what states their pollsters are watching the closest
Yeah, Susie, that is so 4 months ago. /snark
One has to wonder, with blogroll links to racist filled sites like No Quarter, what the irrational Obama hatred here is based in. This quote is purely about polling, the article is clear about that, and truthfully, national polls in the existing electoral system are near useless. But Obama polls so he’s the anti-christ, geez.
Well atleast your northern neighbours may be joining you in voting this year as the conservative government is set to break its new fixed date election law and call a snap election.
May the non-right wing fascists prevail in both lands.
“with blogroll links to racist filled sites like No Quarter”
As opposed to blogroll links to misogynist and ageist filled sites like those at all the Big Obama Love blogs?
I thought that Obama was going to bring us a new kind of politics, one that transcended all regional concerns and would bring victory to Post-Partisans in all 50 states. I’m not holding my breath.
Well, swing states and all. I don’t see this as being exceptional.
What it does show is that actual Democrats in the other 32 states are now perfectly free to:
1. Vote green
2. Vote downticket only
3. Vote for McCain
depending on how they feel about giving the DNC and Obama a mandate. I only with there were an NWP on the ballot.
reminding voters during the primaries why she was not conceding “because things happen, remember, Bobby Kennedy got shot in Jun” is not something a class act does.
That aside, I thought her speech and stoping the roll-call was first rate (scripted or not) and still feel she will make a wonderful SC justice.
Personally, I have trouble with adults staying married to cheaters, liars, and abusers. bill is a serial cheater and through his action show little respect for women as equals. HRC continuing to stay married to him has kept me from having the admiration she would otherwise have from me. Of course she has her reasons…fine - it’s her life — but I know many others (men and women) who feel likewise. I think if she divorced bill it would improve her approval numbers dramatically. I know I would have voted for her…
