The Great Detergent Spill of ‘08
Sep 7th, 2008 at 6:59 am by Susie
My life so often resembles an extended Seinfeld skit, doesn’t it? Last night, despite my having sucked large quantities of soapy water from my bedroom rug with the wet-and-dry vacuum, the fumes still persisted. So I opened my bedroom window and placed a fan blowing near the place on the carpet that still harbors the detergent. I knew it was a bad idea, but all I wanted was a good night’s sleep.
I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned this, but the only time I ever sleep with an open window is during the dead of winter, if it’s been cold enough to kill everything (mold, etc.). And I never, ever have a fan blowing anywhere near me because of my dust allergy.
As you can imagine, I feel terrible this morning. My eyes are almost swollen shut, and my throat hurts. All I want out of life is to wake up feeling good. That’s my goal. It’s an elusive one.
I think I have to cut loose the foam carpet padding under the spill, rinse out the soap and replace it under the rug, because the carpeting does seem to be okay. (The padding, on the other hand, probably has enough detergent in it to do the next ten loads of laundry.)
Sometimes I wish I was rich. I’d just have my personal assistant handle this, and I’d stay in a hotel until it’s finished.

Observation:
1) Hard wood floors.
And what’s a carpet doing near the bottle of laundry detergent, anyway?
Hi, Lucy! Thanks for sharing!
