My biggest fear was that this election will be close enough to steal. Doesn’t look like it’ll be a problem if Obama’s up 15 points in Pennsylvania - but remember, there’s still enough time for an October Surprise.

You are a Working Class Warrior, also known as a blue-collar Democrat. You believe that the little guy is getting screwed by conservative greed-mongers and corporate criminals, and you’re not going to take it anymore.

You’re making me cry. I just can’t get the words “Continuation of Government” out of my head… and all that it COULD entail, if certain administrations have their way.
Of course, I think we’re just as hosed if the Dems get into office, but we might as well try a new and fresh screwing, rather than the screwing we’ve had for the last 8 years.
Oh wait, you know what scares me even more? I wrote that post BEFORE I clicked on the links. Heck, if a know-nothing like ME suspects COG problems, then surely it’s a done deal.
I’ve never understood the “close enough to steal notion”. It’s just as easy to program a no-paper-trail system to flip 10% or 20% of the vote as it is to program it to flip 2% or 3%.
From what statisticians say, the theft is much more mathematically obvious as the margin increases. That’s what the problem is.
actually, i think bush doesn’t want to be president any longer. he’s working pretty hard now to kick all his hardest problems down the road past january 20, 2009 (the iraq withdrawal that his administration has now agreed to, most of the bailout payments, etc). while the republicans certainly want to hold onto power, bush personally doesn’t seem to want to very much anymore.
As the Current Occupant has remarked, Presidentin’s hard work — which has never Bush’s strong point.
Did you read Sideshow, and the possibility of a threat of martial law if congress didn’t vote for the bailout?
I’m going back to reading knitting blogs. I was happier then.
From what statisticians say, the theft is much more mathematically obvious as the margin increases. That’s what the problem is.
But didn’t statisticians establish that Bush’s winning Ohio in 2004 was a statistical impossibility? Or was that Max Cleland losing his Senate seat in Georgia after a Diebold exec personally tinkered with the voting machines in selected heavily Democratic counties? Or even both? And what about the jurisdictions that had more recorded votes than total registered voters?
Yet none of the established media, or the Democratic party for that matter, paid any significant attention to these revelations. For the Rethugs, boldness and blatancy are never a problem. They know that they’ll get a free pass.
October Surprise:
Bush becomes incapacitated and they rush him off to the funny farm.
Cheney, (where is he, anyway?) assumes the mantle.
The market continues to drop, wiping out banks and other businesses, as well as most pensions and retirement funds.
Cheney declares martial law to stop the food riots and maintain “CoG”.
Not a pretty picture, (as opposed to Jim and Corrie’s vows which was a very pretty picture indeed). And who *is* that beautiful woman behind the bride?
My question - why on earth is this election (as of a few days ago) close enough to steal? - even the batshit crazy Alan Keyes supporters could only poll 1/3 against Obama in 2002. That this thing is even close at all is a sign that things are horribly broken…
Martigan -that’s the maid of honor.
