Congrats, Phils!
Bye-bye, Manny…
Phelicitations to the Phillies.
But what’s with the dislike of Manny?
He just had the greatest second-half offensive performance of anyone ever traded in mid-season (by a wide margin), and topped it with an amazing post-season.
And he holds the record for post-season HRs.
I feel the same way about Carlos Pena.
Congrats to the Phillies! Now we’ll see if Kaz can find his old bad self and finish the BoSox tonight.
And Izquierdo, I can’t speak for Linda, but being tired of the overexposure of Manny doesn’t indicate a lack of respect for his athletic abilities (although I was/am among those who suspected him of acting up and slowing down in order to get traded, which tends to negate my respect for his natural abilities).
I found this Page2 bit apt in that I don’t think I could have taken the media’s treatment of a Dodgers vs. BoSox Series. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=keown/081014
I’m sure Keown is appropriately grateful that the Phillies held up their end.
I agree with you on the matchup, Susie. It’s so frustrating to read all this crap about big markets - if it’s exciting play, more than the locals will watch. In this age, they’re claiming baseball fandom is limited by geography while mlb.com touts fans following mlb via interweb from all over the world. Preposterous.
- Let’s hope the Flyin’ Hawaiian has just as great a World Series!
- Re: Manny - I can’t think of another player ever who stood at home plate and admired their home runs like Manny. One game early this year against the Tigers, he stood for 5 seconds watching a homer. 30 years ago he would have gotten knocked down every time he did that. Manny is as arrogant as they come. Imagine physically assaulting a 60 year-old traveling secretary because he didn’t get all the tickets Manny demanded. Great hitter - rotten human being.
as a long-time suffering Cleveland Indians fan, I must say that Manny, despite being a great hitter, is an asshole.
He is the guy that still daydreams in the outfield and drops crucial fly balls.
He is the guy that gets picked off 1st base for daydreaming.
He is the guy that wears his pants in the style I hate–unlike say, Jim Thome.
I think his asshole-ness was amply on display during the near brawl, when he played that whole “I would kick your ass if I wasn’t walking backwards as my team kind of holds me back” move…
Manny is certainyl a great hitter and he has worked very hard at that, and I used to like Manny when he was with the Tribe–when he wasn’t ripping your heart out via some bone-headed play, but I think he’s got a shitty attitude.
but that doesn’t matter now
GO PHILS!!!!
