They did it. The Philadelphia Phillies now walk together in baseball history.
You should understand: This city is old. Not old like a redwood forest, but old in the sense that people of great purpose and vision have gathered here for a long, long time. We’re surrounded by reminders of people who did extraordinary things, people like Ben Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson. We have standards.
So we get a little touchy when our sports heroes don’t live up to our traditions. After all, we’ve seen all the greats.
Tonight, we saw some more.
Like the rest of this series, the title clincher was an astounding game, yet another for the record books.
More later. I have to go party now.

Congrats.
Enjoy it.
If you’re going to Broad Street, bring your hip waders…
Congrats! have fun tonight!
wwwwwwwwwoooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhooooooooooooooooooooo
what a nail biter….we were on the edge of seat till the very end
I’m happy for Lidge and Bruntlett and Madrak!
Well that gets Bud Selig off the hook — sort of.
“And … justice prevails!”, as Johnny Most - longtime announcer for my beloved Boston Cedltics - used to say. It would’ve just been wrong for the Phillies to lose this one, the way it was conducted by the commish.
The Red Sox are my home team, but I’ve found myself rooting hard for the Phillies after the Sox’s exit. The Phils players just seem like a soulful bunch, with a good mix of the young and old (and I do mean old - I LOVE that kind of stuff!) Enjoy it, Philadelphia! You deserve it!!
