Having worked in bank IT for 10 years, let me caution readers:
Some banks will service-charge your account if you happen to close it BEFORE its monthly cycle day (when statements are cut). That is because its average daily balance will drop below its monthly-calculated minimum. Look at your statements and learn what day it cycles. Close it THAT DAY if possible. Otherwise, you might get service charged by blindly closing it on 11/5/11.
