This child has never been told that her mother is suffering from depression which can be traced back to God-knows-what causes and that this is another big factor connected to her family history along with race and poverty. Maybe this would help her clear up the mystery of why things are different for her and maybe give her some degree of understanding and forgiveness for her mother.
