  1. You may have posted this before, and I possibly even replied (brain like a sieve), but I was there. I’d just gotten my first new car (a cute lil’ 1990 Nissan Sentra SE-R pocket rocket, maybe ’91) and drove crosscountry from Hollywood to the east coast, with stops along the way at places I’d lived before (Greenville, NC and Ann Arbor, MI REPRESENT!!!), and a lot of places I just wanted to see…the Grand Canyon and Austin, TX among them. But the drive was the thing…I had a hundred cassettes and a brand new Alpine sound system, and a bag of herbalicious that made all of the wonder of the sights of the trip even moreso…

I was freshly in love with “real” country music (Buck, Merle, George Jones, etc.), and really wanted to go to Nashville, which was amazing (with a side of prefab tourist crap). I went to the Bluebird Cafe and saw some great aspiring talent, The Country Music Hall Of Fame (much, much better than I expected), a really great new/used record store whose name escapes (but I got some rare Lefty Frizzell! Woo hoo!) and got tickets to the show that this video is from, “The American Music Shop”. It was pretty wonderful…sigh…I wish shows (not to mention music like this) were still being made.
