  1. Obama can try and sell whatever he’d like. What happens is up to our Congresspeople. It is not up to him. Our Congress funds the programs that it sets up. It creates the rules that govern how those programs operate. Lean on your Senators and Representatives first. Then lean on Obama if you have any patience left.

  2. Really? Obama only signs what Congress passes? He doesn’t engineer what’s allowed to be put into legislation?

    Really?

Obama has been talking about cuts to SS/Medicare since before he announced for the Dem nomination run, way back in 2007. He deeply alarmed Krugman at that time — and Krugman was definitely right to be alarmed about a possible Dem standard bearer coming out with Republican talking points and desire to cut SocSec.

It’s pretty clear Obama keeps engineering legislative situations where he can be “forced” by the R’s to “have to” place SS/Medicare on the cutting block.

  3. Imhotep – when are you going to get out of your Mom’s basement and face facts. They are ALL on board with this.

  4. The only thing that Obama engineers is a bowl movement each day. Beyond that it’s the scumbags in our Congress who pull our strings. Case in point is Hagel’s confirmation. Hagel needs 51 votes to be confirmed. The Democrats have 55 votes in the Senate. They will all vote to confirm Hagel. Yet…Reid won’t bring his nomination to the Senate floor. Why? Becasue it’s stuck in committee. Even though there are more Democratic votes then there are Republican votes in that committee. Obama’s power is very, very limited. If you have a problem with how this country is run first look at the 1% and then look at our Congress. Forget about Obama because he’s just a bit player in the grand scheme of things.

  5. Bullshit! Obama is the political grease for the wheels. President Romney and this thing never gets out of the Senate. Limited power, my ass. Where is this deal if Obama vowed to veto any cut to Social Security? DOA.
