The charm offensive

Is Obama just trying to split off Republicans from their leadership so they’ll support his Grand Bargain? Inquiring minds want to know! And Elizabeth Warren isn’t going for it:

“‘Chained CPI’ is just a fancy way to say ‘cut benefits for seniors, the permanently disabled, and orphans,’” Sen. Elizabeth Warren told Salon. “Our Social Security system is critical to protecting middle-class families, and we cannot allow it to be dismantled inch by inch.”

Obama has about as much chance of including changes to “Big 3” in some “Grand Bargin” as Bernie Sanders has in becoming president. Speaking of Sanders if Chained-CPI is included in any deal his filibuster will last well into the next century.

Reid doesn’ t usually allow non-Repub senators to make filibuster threats; he makes Dems or Bernie actually stand and talk. Others? Threat still seems to work for them….

What’s wrong with this picture? Can you even imagine a Republican President running around floating trial balloons about an income tax increase to fix the deficit? Never. The Democrats don’t fear us, hear us or respect us. We know the reasons. Ball’s in our court.

I guess the way to get the Dem base energized is to actually be a democrat. If she throws her hat in the ring, even if just for shits and giggles, she’s got my money.
